Having worked with Jacob previously in directing & devising, I was excited to see what he came up with for this project, and Iām happy to say his work did not disappoint! With a thoughtfully crafted website, Jacob has curated a unique selection of works from various mediums to represent four different feminist plays: Sagittarius Ponderosa, Die, Mommie, Die!, Dry Land, and Untitled Feminist Show. Each play has its own tab on the website that leads to a page displaying three works that connect to the themes of the play. There is also a reflection page for each of the plays, with detailed explanations for each of the works chosen.
I would consider the website itself a piece of art, with varying themes, colors, fonts, and special effects chosen to unify all the selected works together into small thematic digital spaces. Each page is its own unique little world, and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring each one! The use of a song, video, and written word poem in addition to classic art mediums (painting, sculpture, and photography) created a lovely balance between the visual and auditory inputs, which greatly added to the experience as a whole. There were quite a few pieces within this collection that really resonated with me, and have inspired me to do some further thinking & searching.
It is clear that Jacob put a lot of thought into the curation and layout of these pieces. Each choice feels intentional, which showed an extra level of care to me as a viewer. I know that the fem experience is not one that Jacob has experienced personally, but I greatly appreciate his willingness to listen, learn, and connect with each of these plays & his commitment to becoming an empathic supporter of others.
Congratulations on curating such a lovely collection of works Jacob, and thank you for letting me be one of the first to view it!
I hope you as a viewer take your time navigating through this digital world, and perhaps walk away with something to explore further.
